At its virtual public meeting on June 9, the Westfield Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Tiffany Jacobson as Interim Principal of the Lincoln Early Childhood Center and Mary McCabe as Interim Assistant Principal at Franklin Elementary School.

Edison Intermediate School has received official designation as a "No Place for Hate" school by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a recognition of its "thoughtfulness, commitment and intention" to promote respect and speak out against prejudice and discrimination.

Teamwork and Ingenuity

A team comprised of students from Edison and Roosevelt Intermediate Schools placed 1st in the “Mechanical Problem,” building a networking device capable of transmitting an image, email and text message between three different network segments at the regional Odyssey of the Mind tournament on March 7.

Virtual Learning Strategies

Teachers at Edison and Roosevelt Intermediate Schools recently held Webex sessions offering virtual learning strategies for students and parents.  The optional sessions offered tips for remote learning including how to keep track of assignments, getting started on work, asking for help, and what to do when feeling overwhelmed by online learning.

Philhower Fellow

Jeanine Gottko, who taught first and fifth grade at Franklin Elementary School in Westfield before working with both students and teachers in the district as a master technology teacher, is the 2020 recipient of the Rotary Club of Westfield’s Philhower Fellowship in recognition of outstanding teaching at the elementary school level.
