The school nurse will conduct screenings as delineated by the NJ Department of Education with the help of other school personnel when appropriate.

• Screenings for height, weight and blood pressure will be conducted annually for each pupil K through 12th grade. The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages blood pressure checks for children over the age of 3. (Grades 6,7,8 at Edison)

• Screenings for visual acuity must be done every two years for students K-10. (Grade 7 at Edison)

• Screenings for auditory acuity shall be conducted annually for students in K-3 and in grades 7 and 11. (Grade 7 at Edison)

• Screening for scoliosis shall be conducted biennially for students between the ages of 10 and 18. (Grade 7 at Edison)

** Screenings can also be done on request of a parent.

If you would like your child exempt from any of the state mandated screenings listed, (height/weight/blood pressure, vision/hearing or scoliosis) please send a dated and signed notification of such to the health office in the beginning of each school year.
